Uruguay

Uruguay is a tiny country in South America of just under 3.5 million people, yet despite this they have produced some world class players throughout the history of the World Cup, have won 2 trophies and made the last 4 on 5 different occasions (1 more than their larger rival, Argentina).
Such success defies logic, no other nation has remotely comparable success in relation to it's size, making Uruguay a unique footballing phenomenon.
Uruguay won the first ever World Cup, hosted in their own country in 1930. Then in 1950 they stunned hosts Brazil by winning the deciding game of the final pool 2-1 in the Maracana in a game Brazil only needed to draw.
Since then Uruguay's fortunes have dipped, inevitable for such a small country, but they've still managed to get past the quarter finals on 3 occasions, the last being the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
